Cops in Malaysia seize fentanyl-laced vape cartridges in $10m drug bust
Summary
Malaysian police have dismantled a drug syndicate and seized a significant quantity of illicit substances, including 400 vape cartridges containing fentanyl, 612.12kg of methamphetamine, and 6.4kg of Erimin 5 pills, with a total estimated value of RM31.57 million (S$10.1 million). The raids took place in Puchong and Cheras, leading to the arrest of two local men aged 31 and 33, one working as a transporter and the other as a storekeeper. Authorities believe the syndicate had been operating since early this year, utilizing a method of leaving drug-filled cars at designated locations for buyers to collect. The operation also revealed that the syndicate was using Malaysia as a base to package fentanyl-laced vape products, initially testing the market through a limited distribution network. Police stated they prevented the widespread sale of fentanyl, a drug considered more potent than heroin and morphine, and are continuing to investigate the syndicate's network, with a possibility of the fentanyl originating from the “Golden Triangle”. Assets worth RM432,000, including vehicles and cash, were also seized. The seized drugs could cater to 3.12 million drug users.
