Two Moss Vale tobacconists—Moss Vale Tobacconist & Gifts at 466 Argyle Street and King of the Pack Moss Vale at 308 Argyle Street—were ordered closed on August 21 for selling illicit tobacco and vaping products, with closures lasting until November 18. The shutdowns are part of a statewide crackdown introduced in November 2025, which also imposes penalties of up to one year imprisonment and a $165,000 fine on premises owners who knowingly permit illegal sales. A recent NSW parliamentary inquiry found limited evidence that enforcement alone reduces the illicit market and recommended additional compliance resources and reviews of excise and vape regulations.
