After Parag vaping incident, BCCI reviewing various terms on treating teams violating norms —Devajit Saikia
Summary
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently reviewing its terms and conditions regarding sanctions for teams that violate Indian Premier League (IPL) protocols. This review was prompted by an incident where Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag was caught vaping in the dressing room, an act prohibited under India's Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA) 2019. Although Parag received only a Level 1 offence fine of 25% of his match fee, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized that the board aims to ensure teams maintain decorum to protect the IPL's image.
This incident is the second protocol breach for the Rajasthan Royals this season, following a fine given to team manager Romi Bhinder for mobile phone use in the dugout. Additionally, Saikia noted that the BCCI will review the Impact Player rule after the tournament and will decide on playoff venues in the coming days.
