Hundreds of vape, Kpod addicts have sought help at IMH; some lost jobs due to addiction

Hundreds have sought help at IMH for vaping and Kpod addiction, with some losing jobs due to their substance use.

Summary

Since September 2025, over 470 individuals have sought assistance at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for addictions to vaping and etomidate (Kpods). The QuitVape programme at the National Addictions Management Service (NAMS) has seen significant enrollment, offering free counseling to Singaporeans and permanent residents to help them manage triggers and prevent relapse.

In addition to vaping, 334 people have entered the Mandatory Etomidate Rehabilitation Programme, which provides education and support in lieu of prosecution. The use of Kpods, which are vapes laced with etomidate, can cause severe health issues including seizures, psychotic episodes, and dangerous drops in potassium levels.

Experts note that while many users initially struggle with the reality of addiction—leading to job loss and strained relationships—public awareness campaigns have helped reassure users that they can seek help without fear of legal penalty. Authorities emphasize that early intervention is crucial as new addictive substances continue to emerge.
