AFP Seizes $1M Tied To Illegal Vape Sales
Summary
The Australian Federal Police (AFP)-led Criminal Assets Confiscation Taskforce (CACT) has seized more than $1 million suspected to be proceeds from the unlawful sale of illicit vaping goods. The confiscation follows a Supreme Court of NSW order and a multi-agency investigation initiated in May 2025 after ANZ and Westpac banks flagged suspicious activity through AUSTRAC's Fintel Alliance. Investigators discovered a website advertising and selling illegal vapes to Australian consumers and businesses. Search warrants were executed at storage units in Sydney, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of vapes and inventories. AFP Acting Commander Tim Underhill emphasized that profiting from illegal activities will result in the loss of ill-gotten gains. The forfeited funds will be reinvested into community initiatives focused on crime prevention and drug diversion. The CACT, a collaboration of several Australian law enforcement and financial intelligence agencies, has restrained almost $1.3 billion in criminal assets since 2019.
