A 21-year-old Singaporean woman was allegedly caught at Batam's Harbour Bay International Ferry Terminal on September 3 with approximately 40 etomidate vape cartridges concealed in her underwear after arriving on the last ferry from Singapore. Customs officers noticed her unusual walking pattern and conducted a further inspection, during which a scanner detected hidden items. Lucky Tamo, head of enforcement and investigation at Batam Customs, said: "During a more detailed inspection, we found an item concealed in her crotch." Tests confirmed the cartridges contained etomidate, and she was subsequently handed over to Barelang police. She told Indonesian police the cartridges were for personal use and intended to "have fun" on the island. However, Barelang police narcotics chief Arsyad Riyandi noted the cartridges had already been opened and removed from their original packaging, stating: "Despite her claim, we are still investigating the origin of the drugs and the possibility of her links to an international drug network." He added that foreigners caught with drugs in Indonesia face the same law as Indonesians.
