Sheffield sees surge in illegal vape seizures with more than 25,000 confiscated this year

The Star
Sheffield has seized over 25,000 illegal vapes in 2025, the highest number in South Yorkshire.

Summary

Sheffield has recorded the highest number of illegal vape seizures in South Yorkshire, with 25,674 products confiscated in 2025. This figure is more than two-and-a-half times higher than the 9,743 seized in Doncaster. Over the past three years, more than 41,000 illegal vapes have been seized in the city. Illegal vapes often exceed UK legal nicotine limits, contain oversized tanks, or fail packaging requirements. Trading standards officers warn consumers to be cautious when buying from unregulated sources. Dan Marchant, director of Vape Club, stated that the illegal vape market remains a significant challenge and called for a retail and distributor licensing framework to be implemented nationwide. The data was collected as part of Vape Club's annual Illegal Vapes and Nicotine Product Report.
