The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has dismantled a large-scale e-cigarette smuggling operation spanning Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, and West Bengal. Acting on intelligence, authorities intercepted consignments misdeclared as furniture and metal chair parts to evade customs. The operation resulted in the seizure of nearly 300,000 e-cigarettes valued at over Rs 120 crore, all sourced from China. This bust follows a separate DRI operation, 'Operation Golden Drop,' which last month arrested a cleaning staff member for smuggling approximately 3 kg of gold valued at Rs 4.8 crore concealed in egg-shaped capsules at Mumbai's airport.
