Shocking photo shows teen's black and shrivelled lungs after vaping for three years

The Mirror
A 17-year-old teen suffered four lung collapses due to vaping, resulting in surgically removed, blackened lung tissue.

Summary

LeeRay King, a 17-year-old from near Wellington, New Zealand, developed a severe vaping addiction starting at age 14, consuming up to four disposable vapes weekly.

In August last year, he experienced excruciating pain and struggled to breathe, leading to the discovery that his left lung had collapsed (pneumothorax). Over the next four months, his lung collapsed four more times, necessitating three surgeries, including a pleurodesis and pleurectomy.

During the third operation, surgeons removed a piece of damaged, black, and shrivelled lung tissue, which his mother, Kylee Jope, believes was caused by years of vaping. The family plans to bury the removed lung piece and is now dedicated to educating others, especially young people, about the severe health risks associated with vaping.
