Ex-SAF captain admits to cheating victims of over $143k, dealing with vape devices in camp
Summary
A former Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) captain, Benjamin Song Yong Pang, has admitted to cheating 16 victims of more than $143,000 over three years. Many of his victims were subordinates whom he duped into handing over money for "investments" or to pay his mother's medical bills. Song, who was also a deputy cluster commander at Supply Base North, used the funds to pay his debts from patronising Thai clubs and KTVs. He also openly vaped in his office at Nee Soon Camp. On June 23, the 38-year-old pleaded guilty to five counts of cheating involving five people and nearly $87,000, as well as four vape-related charges. He has made full restitution to his victims. The court heard that Song enlisted three subordinates to procure and pass prohibited vaping items to him, leveraging his position as a superior officer. His sentencing is scheduled for July.
