Fully-grown woman gets lifetime flying ban for vaping on flight as passenger grasses her up
Summary
A 37-year-old woman has been slapped with a lifetime flying ban from domestic airlines and a hefty fine of approximately £1,860 after being caught vaping aboard a flight from Sochi to St Petersburg. Flight crew reported that the passenger had been vaping both in the aircraft lavatory and while seated. Smoke detection systems are thought to have assisted in identifying the smoking violation. Police arrested the woman, a Russian citizen, when the aircraft touched down in St Petersburg. An Interior Ministry spokesman confirmed she was subject to administrative proceedings under Article 6.24 of the Code of Administrative Offences for breaching regulations concerning tobacco and similar products in enclosed areas. Using e-cigarettes on aircraft remains prohibited under international aviation rules and is regarded as a serious breach in numerous countries. No injuries or flight diversions were recorded.
