Vape retailer issues response to call for indoor vaping ban in Scotland
Summary
Former UK minister Lord Jack McConnell has urged the Scottish government to introduce an indoor vaping ban similar to the smoking ban of 2006. In an article for the Enlighten think tank, McConnell argued that companies use exploitative marketing to create new nicotine addictions and called for a ban to protect children. Richard Begg, head of learning and development at vape retailer VPZ, responded to these calls. He stated that while protecting young people is a priority, vaping and smoking are not the same. Begg warned that an indoor ban could send the wrong public health message and harm efforts to reduce smoking rates among adults who have switched to vaping.
