Kelantan Vape Trade Operates Covertly, Use Code Words To Target Regulars
Summary
The sale of vape devices and liquids in Kelantan is being conducted covertly, with sellers using code words and operating behind front businesses such as mobile phone shops, perfume shops, and grocery stores to target regular customers. State Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee chairman Hilmi Abdullah said these activities were uncovered during integrated enforcement operations involving local authorities, police, the National Anti-Drugs Agency, and the Kelantan State Health Department. Last year, authorities seized 42,189 units of vape liquid in various flavors across the state, and more than 50,000 prohibited items are expected to be seized this year. Kelantan has banned the sale of vapes since 2015, and no business licenses have been issued or renewed for vape sales since a moratorium ended in 2013. At a recent disposal ceremony in Pasir Puteh, 4,518 confiscated items, including flavored vape liquids, vape devices, and shisha equipment, were destroyed following 12 integrated operations.
