Post Office Manager Charged Over Vape and Tobacco Imports
Summary
A Multi Agency Strike Team (MAST) charged three people, including a 62-year-old licensed post office manager from north of Sydney, following investigations into trusted insiders allegedly importing large quantities of illicit tobacco and vapes into Australia. The MAST comprises officers from the NSW Police Force, AFP, ABF, NSW Crime Commission, ACIC, AUSTRAC and ATO. In October 2026, investigators executed search warrants at Berowra Heights, Zetland and Banksmeadow and seized over $60,000 in cash, more than 3.3 million illicit tobacco sticks, 14,040 vapes and other tobacco products. The 62-year-old man was charged with multiple commercial quantity offenses and granted conditional bail. A 36-year-old man arrested in Banksmeadow was refused bail on similar charges, while another 36-year-old man was granted bail on a commercial vape possession charge. Police leaders emphasized that trusted insiders are critical to organised crime networks and that disrupting them is a key priority.
