State Unveils App To Help Rhode Islanders Quit Smoking And Vaping
Summary
The Rhode Island Department of Health has launched QuitLogix, a free app available in English and Spanish for Rhode Islanders aged 18 and older, downloadable from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The app offers core features similar to the QuitNowRI web program, including guidance on building a quit plan and rewards for achieving milestones. Dr. Jerry Larkin, Director of Health, stated that the app puts quitting resources at people's fingertips and emphasized that quitting is one of the most important health decisions. Tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of death and disease, with about one in 10 adult Rhode Islanders smoking and about one in 15 using e-cigarettes. Combining coaching with FDA-approved nicotine replacement therapy increases the likelihood of quitting.
