A vape store clerk near Ole Miss warned a buyer that people were dying from kratom pills, amid investigation into two student deaths.Summary
Two Ole Miss students, Aidan Hamilton, 18, and Robert Strang, 20, were found dead on Sept. 21. Packages of kratom or synthetic kratom were found with both. Hamilton had purchased items from Puffs Vape, Tobacco and Beer Store in Oxford, Mississippi, where two employees were arrested for possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute. A confidential informant reported that a clerk warned about kratom pills causing deaths. Over 500 units of kratom were seized. Strang had also purchased synthetic kratom from a gas station and had nitrous oxide cans and Xanax. The role of kratom in their deaths is undetermined.
