North Nashville Shooting Wounds One Outside Jefferson Street Vape Shop

Metro Nashville Police responded around 6:15 p.m. Saturday to a shooting on the 1800 block of Jefferson Street, where one person was seriously wounded in a parking lot between a vape shop (identified as Z Mart #7) and a gas station. The victim was transported to an area hospital, and no suspect description or motive has been released; MNPD's investigation remains ongoing.

The shooting adds to a troubled history along the Jefferson Street corridor. In October 2023, a late-night shooting near Jefferson Street and 26th Avenue North left two men with non-critical wounds. In October 2024, a massive shootout at Jefferson Street and 27th Avenue North killed a 24-year-old man and injured nine others amid gunfire between rival gang factions; four suspects were later arrested. Just days before this weekend's shooting, a man in his 60s was shot on nearby 18th Avenue North.

Despite local incidents, citywide crime is declining. Nashville recorded 74 homicides in 2025—a 27.5% drop from the prior year and the lowest since 2014—with 35% fewer gunshot victims citywide. Overall crime fell another 20% in early 2026. The city launched the Jefferson Street Corridor Study in 2026 under the "Choose How You Move" initiative to upgrade pedestrian crosswalks, traffic signals, and safety for the roughly 26,000 residents served by the corridor. Jefferson Street historically served as the commercial and cultural center of North Nashville's Black community before Interstate 40 construction divided it in the 1960s.
