One person died and two others were wounded in a shooting outside King's Vape on Jefferson Street in North Nashville on Saturday evening around 6 p.m. Police said 19-year-old Donald King Jr. was fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot. King was a passenger in a Mitsubishi SUV that backed into a parking lot next to a Toyota Camry; when occupants of both vehicles interacted, gunfire erupted between them. King was critically wounded and died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His two friends—a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old—as well as the Camry driver fled the scene. The 20-year-old friend was treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital, while the Camry driver was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues to determine who started the shooting and why. Community member Sasha Stevenson called for more youth programs and mentorship funding in North Nashville to address gun violence, stating the community needs to pressure the city to provide stronger programs for children in the area.
