The Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society has expressed alarm over a new vape shop opening next to the Mackintosh Tearooms in Glasgow, saying it puts the historic building at increased risk of fire. The charity cites recent fires at a vape shop on Union Street and at the Glasgow School of Art's Mackintosh Building. Society director Matthew Williams and chair Michael Dale called on Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government to block the shop and for the landlord to reconsider the lease. The council says planning permission for a shop has long existed and there is no specific licensing system for vape shops, but it is checking registration. A Scottish Government spokesman said planning decisions are for the local authority.
