The cost of vaping will rise by nearly £300 a year when a new tax law comes in

The Star
A new UK tax will increase vaping costs by about £275 annually for a typical user, with concerns about black market growth.

Summary

A new UK Vaping Products Duty, effective in October, will add a flat tax of 22p per millilitre plus 20% VAT to e-liquids. This is expected to increase the cost of a standard 10ml bottle by at least £2.64, pushing its price over £5. For a vaper using two bottles per week, the annual cost will rise by approximately £275. A survey by Vapekit found that 62% of vapers are concerned about the financial impact, with 48% considering turning to the black market. Less than half of respondents were aware of the incoming tax, leading to calls for better government communication. The tax is projected to affect 5.1 million people and raise £600 million annually by 2030/31. The Vapekit managing director highlighted that vaping is a proven smoking cessation tool, and this tax will make it significantly more expensive for those trying to quit.
