According to Freedom of Information requests by nicotine pouch retailer Alternix, UK universities have recorded hundreds of student smoking and vaping incidents in accommodation halls since 2024. The University of Greenwich leads with 727 incidents, followed by the University of Sussex (426) and University of Essex (258). Many top institutions, including Russell Group universities like the University of Edinburgh (194 incidents) and University of Manchester (191), have issued fines and formal warnings.
