Spain facing a tougher UK-style crackdown on smoking: Worrying surge in teenage vaping
Summary
A recent survey by the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine (semFYC) reveals that 75.7 per cent of Spaniards support expanding smoke-free areas, while 66.1 per cent back stricter regulation of e-cigarette retail outlets. The study highlights a worrying trend of dual use among teenagers, with 11.9 per cent of 14-18 year olds using e-cigarettes and 3.8 per cent smoking conventional cigarettes. In response to these findings and the UK's approval of a law banning tobacco sales to those born after 2009, semFYC has expressed support for studying similar measures in Spain to protect public health and strengthen the protection of minors.
